A Highly Excelling School District

Riverside School District #2 is located in Phoenix, Arizona. Our district is made up of newer residential properties with nearly 1,000 students on two campuses with a third campus on the drawing board. We are very fortunate to have the advantage of commercial, university, and industrial partnerships that help support our advanced curriculum, state of the art sports facilities, year round extracurricular activities, fully funded afterschool academic tutoring programs, and integrated instructional technologies that are unavailable to many large and private schools. In essence, we are the school district of choice for the discerning parent.

We are excited for parents, students, and the community to become part of the Riverside family; a community school district where students are provided with an advanced curriculum by master teachers and highly qualified staff. We invite you to use our district website to learn more about our wonderful programs, our state of the art schools, and our many academic achievements. For information about becoming part of the Riverside School District faculty and staff, visit our Human Resources Department page. To take part in donating directly to our student extra-curricular programs, please visit our School Tax Credits page to facilitate your contribution. Please take the time to review the Current District School Calendar so that you may schedule your volunteer time at one of our schools. If you have any questions or comments, we hope you will feel free to contact us directly.

AZ Common Core Standards

Dear Riverside Elementary School District Family:

Welcome to our online home. The staff at R2 has worked hard to prepare for the school year. This year we are implementing a Transformational Model for R2. This requires that all faculty and staff have a genuine desire to improve student achievement, to have consistency in the implementation of our educational programs, and to have trust in each other to make the decisions to improve the culture and environment of our school district.

Many of us have seen or experienced the caliber of education students receive at affluent schools in the Valley and the lack thereof at inner-city schools. We are committed to providing the same or better facilities and resources to our students than those found at school districts that are more affluent. Our students deserve the very best.

Our commitment to student learning is paramount, and engaging our community for the purpose of increased student achievement has never been more important. The relationship between schools and communities is reciprocal, and we must foster community support, trust, and partnerships. We are working to create and implement a structure that will allow us to engage in conversation with the community we serve.

Our district is fortunate have some incredible community support and partnerships. For example, our partnerships with the United Way, Helios Foundation, Valley of the Sun, Chicanos Por La Causa, Amazon, Chevron, UPS, and FedEx. We will continue to build such relationships in our continued effort to provide resources and opportunities to our students and staff. We are a learning organization, and learning means change. Below, I have listed just a few of the exciting (and sometimes challenging) changes going into this school year:

  • 54%, at last count, are either new to the district or in a new position in our district. Our new employees bring ideas and innovations even as they learn the traditions, cultures and structures that have proven effective for R2;
  • Technology integration will be a primary focal point of instruction at all grade levels;
  • Synergy/Galileo, A+ Blended Learning, our student information systems, will provide easier access to more data, streamline communication with parents, and make research based grading systems easier for schools to implement;
  • Full day PD to provide sufficient time for faculty training and collaboration;
  • Collaborative and professional relationships between the district and employee groups, both licensed and classified, will start the year with a new performance bonus program;
  • The implementation of our Teacher Evaluation System (Teacher Folio) which is predominately based on student achievement;
  • Faculty Highly Performance Salary Schedule and Performance Bonus;
  • Some amazing new partnerships including GCU, ASU, Rio Salado, and NAU for both assessment and course work for teachers interested in achieving their reading endorsement, Masters in Education degree, and teacher certification.

I am honored to collaborate with the staff, students, and community in R2 as we work toward taking student achievement to new heights. If you have any concerns or questions, my door is open to you.
